Focus Eco Center > NABI – Nature-Based Innovations for Urban Forest and Rainwater Management

Nature-based Solutions for Greener Cities

Focus Eco Center is looking for innovative solutions for urban forest- and rainwater management. These methods can play a key role in the future of municipalities and can help them in the adaptation to climate change. The project consortium consists of 6 NGOs from 6 countries financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

Erasmus+ project lead by Reflex Association has been launched in September 2020 which will last for 3 years. In the so called „NABI – Nature-Based Innovations for Urban Forest and Rainwater Management” project, experts in 6 countries will collect – innovative, already implemented – nature-based solutions (NBS) that can be a good example for European municipalities in their climate adaptation work.

In NABI project, consortium partners will collect case studies in the following 6 countries: Hungary (Reflex), Germany (AIFORIA GmbH), Austria (Climate Alliance Austria), Italy (COSPE), Romania (Focus Eco Centre), Croatia (IDA), which case studies will be available via online materials.

The primary goal of the project is to provide easy-to-use materials for the municipal staff, stakeholders, and experts on NBS topics and to help in disseminating and implementing the best practices on national level.

During the project period, the partners will also review national regulations concerning urban green space management, which will also provide a model for national decision-makers in the form of an online learning manual.

A kick-off meeting was held in December 2020, led by Reflex, of course due to virus situation only in the online space.  Hopefully, ZOOM discussions will be replaced by real meetings in the future. The consortium is planned to meet three more times over the project lifetime – in Florence, Freiburg, and Croatia. A four-day thematic training will also take place in Szeged (HU) for the consortium partners.

The first major step will be May 2021, when partners will prepare the library of best practices.

Project partners look forward to seeing local, innovative, NBSs in each country to keep up with the climate challenges of our times.
